Chair's Report for 2022 Annual Parish Meeting

GRAINTHORPE PARISH COUNCIL

Chairman’s Report – Cllr. Richard Drinkel  -  4th May 2022

We have had a relatively ‘normal’ year this year, with face to face meetings continuing throughout the year.

We have looked at the problems with the traffic in the village and have asked for the 40 mph peed limit to be reduced to 30 mph.  We did also consider asking for the High Street to be reduced to 20 mph, however we decided it would be more realistic to ask for the whole of the village to be 30 mph.

We are in the process of looking at putting some sort of village name signage at each end of the village, plans are in progress.  We are also looking for another notice board to be put on the Playing Field promoting the village walks and natural habitat.

In September we advertised to co-opt a new Councillor and we are extremely pleased that Mr Mark Bensley has joined us.

We have monitored all the planning applications in the village and have given our comments on ones that have caused concern to residents.

In November we were visited by a representative from Quickline who talked to us about bringing faster internet speeds to the village, we were also visited by a Rep from Internetty who are also looking a faster speeds and different methods for the village.

Hopefully we will soon see some results from these consultations.

Our District and County Councillors have been very supportive and attended all of our meetings. They gave a report about the Nuclear Waste Team and the ongoing proposals at Theddlethorpe and advised that residents attend any meetings that are set up and ask questions.

The Parish Council have continued to support the maintenance of the Churchyard and have now purchased a new mower for this purpose. We have had funds ‘ring-fenced’ for this for a couple of years and also received a substantial grant from our two local District Councillors, from their grant fund.

Plans are in hand for the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations within the village by various groups.  Grainthorpe Parish Council and Marshchapel Parish Council have joined together to give every child (R – Y6) in Grainthorpe school and Marshchapel school a Jubilee Commemorative mug.

Grainthorpe Parish Council exist to be the voice of the people in the village, the purpose of this meeting, the Annual Parish meeting, is for residents to come and have their say about what they would like to see implemented in the village.  We always listen to what residents say, not everything is possible but we will do our best to try and follow through any plans or ideas that you bring to us.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr & Mrs Lingard for their help in maintaining the redundant part of the churchyard and also Mr & Mrs Lidstone-Scott for maintaining the War Memorial.

Finally, I would like to thank the Clerk and all the Councillors for their hard work and dedication over the past year,

Richard Drinkel
